In search of Eastern connections
A member of our research team, Géza Szabó participated a conference last November in Vladikavkaz titled “The 21st century paradigm shift in the Nart Studies”. The meeting was jointly organized by the Institute of Humanities of the Vladikavkaz Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the North Ossetian State University, Vladikavkaz.
The 68 lectures of the conference addressed a diverse approach to the research into the history of narts, people in the Indo-European language family that are still living in the Caucasus. Different opinions in the field of philosophy, philology, linguistics, history, and social sciences (history of law, economics and mentality) have led to extremely lively and fruitful discussions.
Due the respectful interest in Géza Szabó’s research into the Bronze Age History of Indo-European people, his presentation titled “The table of the Narts and prehistoric mobility in Europe” was nominated the opening lecture of the plenary session. After the conference, our colleague was given the opportunity to some fieldwork related to his research, to observe archaeological finds in local museums and to review the scientific literature of the national library.
We hope that Géza will share his most recent experiences with us at home conferences, and that his latest research results on the Caucasian relationships of Bronze Age metalworking will be published in new articles soon.
