Public revival of Bronze Age craftsmanship
The international exhibition titled „CRAFTER – Crafting Europe in the Bronze Age and Today” is now open in the café of the Déri Museum in Debrecen.
The project, funded by the Creative Europe Program, was established in July 2018 in collaboration with eight institutions from five European countries (Autonomous University of Barcelona, Mula City Council, EXARC, Halle Museum of Prehistory, Paraćin Municipal Museum, Déri Museum, Archeology Institute of Archaeology, Research Centre for the Humanities). The project provided us the opportunity to attend a workshop in Mula, Spain. Several scientific and educational studies have been carried out within the framework of the program.
During the cooperative work, four potters from Spain, Germany, Hungary and Serbia recreated ceramic vessels of the El Argar (Southeast Spain), the Únětice (Central Europe), the Vatin (South Serbia) and the Füzesabony (East Hungary) cultures. The process of reproduction is presented in the exhibition in immersive documentaries, and the related archaeological cultures are introduced with spectacular posters.
The temporary exhibition was opened by the speeches of Tamás Szentei, Head of the Department of Culture, Debrecen City Council , János Angi, Director of the Déri Museum, Vajk Szeverényi Vajk, Head of Archaeological Department of the Déri Museum and László Gucsi ceramic-restorer.
The documentary “In their hands”, featuring either the work of the four modern artisans or the Bronze Age traditions, can be purchased on DVD on site, and copies of the items will be sold separately after the exhibition.
The exhibition is open until 31 December 2019.
