Back to Bronze Age craftsmanship: another stage of the CRAFTER project
CRAFTER (Crafting Europe in the Bronze Age and Today) project was launched a year ago, in July 2018, implemented in the framework of the European Year of the Cultural Heritage 2018 and the Creative Europe Program. The main goal of the project is to revive some of the most outstanding European Bronze Age pottery-making traditions with the help of modern artisans.
The CRAFTER co-operates with eight institutions from five European countries: the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain), the EXARCassociation (The Netherlands), the Halle State Museum of Prehistory (Germany), the Hometown Museum of Paraćin (Serbia), the Déri Museum of Debrecen, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (Hungary).
During the cooperative work, four potters from Spain, Germany, Hungary and Serbia will recreate ceramic vessels of the El Argar (Southeast Spain), the Únětice (Central Europe), the Vatin (South Serbia) and the Füzesabony (East Hungary) cultures. Their work will be captured in four documentary films, which will give a deeper insight into the technical hints of ancient ceramic art. In the autumn of 2019, the recreated artworks will be exhibited in the four countries, at the same time.
The Déri Museum in Debrecen will host the exhibition in Hungary. The process of reproduction will be presented in immersive documentary films, which will give a deeper insight into the technical hints of ancient ceramic art.
We proudly announce that the grand documentary titled „In their hands” has been produced over the past few months (watch the trailer here). The Hungarian parts were prepared with the participation of the members of the Déri Museum and the Archaeological Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, while the work of László Gucsi ceramist-restorer was filmed by Csaba Balogh, cameraman-director. The final form of the film shaped by the staff of the Friends Association of the Archaeological Site of La Bastida (ASBA).
